Hello, Fellas! Since last time we reviewed the 2016 Yamaha YZF R6 within the super sports category, we decided to go for the naked bikes this time by reviewing the 2017 Yamaha MT 07 (yes we love Yamaha that much).
As any other naked motorcycle, the MT 07 is well-known for its lightweight, high versatility and unique maneuvering options. However, the 2017 Yamaha MT 07 motorcycle has some unique features that we are going to discuss in details later on that make it stands out from the crowd.
The Yamaha MT 07 Engine.
Our beloved manufacturers decided to load their new motorcycle with a liquid-cooled 689cc inline 2-cylinder 4-stroke engine. This engine may not provide you with the ultimate top speed, but it will give you the required dose of adrenaline shot with its insane acceleration due to the remarkable torque.
The Yamaha MT 07 engine gives a maximum power of 55.0 kW @ 9,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 55.0 Nm @ 6,500 rpm. Those numbers are expected due to the 2-cylinder engine which is common within naked motorcycles.
The Transmission & Drivetrain.
The 2017 Yamaha MT 07 has a Constant Mesh, 6 –speed transmission gearbox with a wet and multiple disk clutch type. Moreover, it has a chain final transmission system to provide you with smooth shifting and efficient acceleration. What else can you need?
Fuel, Ignition & Starter.
This monster runs on a fuel injection system to give you the best performance at the lowest price; this is shown at its 4.3l/100 km fuel consumption rate. Also, the MT 07 is equipped with a TCI Ignition system for your convenience and an electric starter system.
2017 Yamaha MT 07 Cares About the Environment.
You don’t need to be an environmentalist to care about our lovely planet. No harm in enjoying your rides while keeping the planet clean. The MT 07 achieves this through its low CO2 emissions which are 100g/km. The fuel tank capacity is 14 L, so with the previously mentioned consumption level, this motorcycle has a relatively fair range.
The Chassis, Suspension & Brakes.
The 2017 Yamaha MT 07 is loaded with a diamond aluminum chassis the combines both strength and lightweight. You can enjoy a smooth ride with its Front Telescopic forks and rear Swingarm suspension system.
As for the breaks; the front has a hydraulic dual disc with a diameter of 282 mm, whereas the rear is a single one with a 245 mm one. This will provide you with the breaking power needed for a safe ride to such insane acceleration and powerful torque.
Dimensions & Weight.
Naked bikes are known for their lightweight and high maneuvering ability. They have a decent reputation as the best solution for urban rides. The Yamaha MT 07 has an overall length of 2,085 mm, a width of 745 mm and a seat height of 805 mm.
Those dimensions clearly demonstrate the fact that this motorcycle is compact. Add to this its 164 kg dry weight and you will be riding a very versatile, lightweight and powerful naked motorcycle.
The MT 07 has a ground clearance of 140 mm and a wheel base of 1,400 mm. The tire sizes are 120/70 ZR 17M (front) and 180/55 ZR 17M (Rear) which will support you with the stability and grip needed while riding (especially at turns).
Design & Other Options.
The MT 07 has a very sharp and bada** tough look compared to other naked bikes (within the same category). We admire the sharp lines within the fairings (upper tank part) and the exquisite front headlight and mirrors design too.
Last but not least, the clear LED gauge will inform you with all the information you need while riding; such as your speed, the fuel level and the transmission gear.
